About Our Syllabus
The MJSSA UK syllabus is more than a curriculum—it is a spiritual journey that forms the mind and heart of every child in the light of Christ and the living tradition of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church. It is prayerfully designed to nurture faith, knowledge, and character, guiding children to grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally as true disciples of Christ.
Each lesson revolves around a central theme—creation, obedience, the lives of saints, the parables of Christ, prayer, forgiveness, Christian community, service, feast days, praise, stewardship, and celebration—anchored in Holy Scripture. These themes do not merely teach biblical truths but also cultivate virtues such as humility, discipline, compassion, responsibility, and gratitude.
To enrich both spiritual and mental development, the syllabus blends diverse methods of learning:
- Storytelling and Scripture meditation to deepen biblical understanding.
- Interactive discussions and moral reflections to sharpen reasoning, encourage questions, and build confidence in faith.
- Hands-on crafts, memory verses, and activities that strengthen creativity and memory.
- Syriac chants, Malayalam hymns, and liturgical practices that immerse children in the worship life of the Church.
- Service-oriented projects and community participation that help children live out the Gospel in action.
From Beginners to Seniors, every stage of Sunday School offers age-appropriate lessons that prepare children not only to know Christ but also to love Him and serve His Church. The curriculum encourages them to grow in:
- Faith – anchoring their hearts in Christ.
- Wisdom – shaping their minds with truth and discernment.
- Character – cultivating virtues in daily life.
- Identity – cherishing their unique heritage as Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Christians.
This syllabus has been carefully developed by the Curriculum Committee under the blessing of our esteemed Spiritual Fathers and with the guidance of Orthodox Christian scholars. Their collective wisdom ensures that each lesson reflects the depth, sacred tradition, and spiritual richness of our Holy Church.
Together, the syllabus builds a strong foundation where spiritual growth, mental maturity, cultural identity, and a spirit of fellowship and service flourish in every child—preparing them to live as faithful witnesses of Christ in the world.
